NETWORK & PHILOSOPHY

With their aesthetics and their idealism, artists can inspire people, have a positive influence and make people conscious about human rights.

However, there are some critical questions to adress on a deeper level:

Focusing on constructive solutions vs. exposing human rights violations:
Human rights abuses exist everywhere, even in places where you would never expect them. Addressing and exposing human rights violations is of utter importance, but another challenge lies in using art as a constructive and life-changing force. How can an artistic work lead to positive change in society? What kind of art can achieve an automatic implementation of human rights just by being performed as art? ART FOR HUMAN RIGHTS provides food for thought and action and contributes to healthier, more stable and secure societies.

The "universality" of the international human rights:
Human rights, although titled universal, can be seen as a Western construct forced upon other cultures. Are they really universal? Do they have to be updated, and if so, how, and by whom? A constructive discussion about this issue is relevant and can also be held through art.

What is art?
The answer is too large for just one sentence, but evokes a discussion which is inevitable when it comes to any networks for artists. The ART FOR HUMAN RIGHTS MOVEMENT aims to be including, even if not all contributions will find a place on the webpage. We will have to find solutions on the way.
